10 SIMPLE TIPS FOR A SUSTAINABLE WEDDING

HOW TO ORGANISE A SUSTAINABLE & ECO FRIENDLY WEDDING

HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

We’re here to help our beautiful couples, organise a sustainable & eco friendly wedding. This may seem a little daunting at first, but trust us, it’s really easy and just takes a bit of researching during your planning stages.

We are truly motivated by our stunning surrounds, located beneath the escarpments, of the back, of Night Cap National Park. And the beauty and abundance of nature, and we want you to be a part of that beauty, and help us preserve it, and how you can have a sustainable wedding. The Tweed Valley, Northern NSW is a wonderful area of people that truly care & value our environment and that inspires us as well!

So, how can you make your wedding a sustainable event? Here’s 10 easy tips to consider when making your decisions for your wedding:

  1. Don’t purchase single use items just for your wedding? It doesn’t make economic or sustainable sense. But if you do, please make sure you are on our “Midginbil Eco Resort Weddings” closed FB group, so you can sell your items post wedding. The beauty of this, means someone else can enjoy these items and you make some money back. It’s a Win/Win! https://www.facebook.com/groups/890640987724518
  2. Alternatively, you can use the Facebook Group link above and purchase 2nd hand items, this way they are reused & repurposed. Also a Win/Win! And sustainable for the planet!
  3. Use Biodegradable confetti & cones, it’s a sustainable choice. Check out https://www.thewholebride.com/collections/home-page-collection-1/products/biodegradable-confetti
  4. Hire Furniture instead of buying – you can hire through us, it’s on the property, it doesn’t have to be transported & there’s no delivery fee. So you Save $$$$$ & environmentally friendly
  5. Where you can use crockery & glassware. We hire glassware too, and your caterer for your reception should provide plates & cutlery. If you need to use disposable, please use bamboo or paper. Single use plastic cutlery, plates & cups are banned in NSW now anyway.
  6. Car pool to & from the venue. Encourage your guests to travel together. It’s a much more sustainable choice.
  7. Instead of sending out invites, use an online invitation or purchase eco friendly invites, made from recycled paper. Think about the environment, paper has a HUGE impact on the environment. Check out this article about the huge, negative impacts of paper on the environment https://ecolonomics.org/the-environmental-impacts-of-using-paper/#:~:text=Paper%20industries%20also%20pollute%20water%20resources%20of%20the,acidification%20and%20oxygen%2C%20nitrogen%2C%20and%20carbon%20cycle%20imbalances.
  8. Purchase Aussie Products – support local business
  9. Engage local vendors – support local business & they have less travel and live & work in the local area. Not only are you supporting, small, local, family businesses, but the environment as well.
  10. Do your research and engage a florist that purchases sustainably grown flowers from Australia. Not from overseas and sprayed with loads of chemicals.

Some of these tips will save you $$$$ and some will cost a bit more, so it really balances out the expenditure side to know that you are making a positive difference to the environment, by making ethical choices and hosting a sustainable wedding. You’re wedding will be talked about forever, as the “best wedding” your guests ever went to.

You will feel good about yourselves, knowing that you hosted an amazing, beautiful, sustainable, eco friendly wedding. Every small or big, conscious decisions we make, 100% makes an impact on our beautiful environment & ultimately the planet. It’s a team effort, let’s create sustainable & eco friendly weddings together!
