From DIY decor to homemade favours, here are some practical and creative ideas for crafting a memorable eco wedding on a budget.
How to DIY Your Wedding
If you’re anything like us here at Midginbil Eco Resort, you love the idea of a DIY wedding.
The Pinterest boards, the crafting, the satisfaction of knowing you made everything yourself…what’s not to love?
But before you get too carried away with visions of mason jars and burlap, there are a few things you should consider.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to DIYing your wedding.
1. Decide what’s actually important to you
Chances are, there are some aspects of a traditional wedding that are really important to you, and others that you could care less about.
Do you want a small, intimate ceremony with your closest family and friends or something more extravagant?
Will you prefer a reception that feels more like a party than a stuffy formal affair?
Think about everything related to your wedding from the ceremony, to the location, who you want to invite, and what you want your reception to be like. Write it all down, start a Pinterest board, and put together a long-range planning calendar with any milestones and deadlines.
2. Make a budget…and then add 20% (at least)
This is probably the most important step in the entire process.
You need to have a realistic idea of how much money you’re willing to spend on your wedding because chances are it will cost more than you think.
Once you have your number in mind, add 20% (or more) to account for unexpected expenses. You will thank me later.
3. Start early…like, way early.
If you want to DIY your wedding without losing your mind in the process, set your date and start working on projects as soon as possible.
This will give you plenty of time to complete everything without feeling like you’re constantly playing catch-up. Trust me on this one.
4. Delegate, delegate, delegate!
One person cannot possibly do everything themselves (no matter how much they may want to).
Ask your friends and family for help with specific tasks or projects, and don’t be afraid to outsource some things if necessary (more on that later).
The key is not to try to do everything yourself; otherwise, you’ll end up feeling stressed and overwhelmed long before your big day arrives.
A DIY wedding can be a lot of work…but it can also be a lot of fun!
Just make sure you start early, delegate when necessary, and don’t forget to add a buffer for unexpected costs.
And above all else, remember what’s truly important to you about your wedding day. With that in mind, DIY away!
